This is really impressive. I like how the entire community comes together to work on their barns. Makes me wish I lived there. lol.

They just don't build barns like they used to. I like the pole barns on this site, but it's still impressive to see it done by hand.

Those polebarns are huge! Is the entire thing really held together only with pegs? No nails?

I do work with Amish people sometimes and they have cellular phones and chainsaws and other power tools. It's still impressive how they build their barns without nails, and how the community comes together to accomplish a common goal, whether it's raising barns or bringing in the crop.

I like the music in this, does anyone know what it's called? Good for building pole sheds.

Does it come in a kit like the pole barns on this site? Just kidding.

When I lived in Ohio I got to see traditional polebarns raisings all the time. It was a great experience, even though I was too young to help out.

The crane was used for safety. There were so many English volunteers to help raise the barns they had to accept a crane for precaution. Appropriate indeed! The framing is solid oak and each pole was lifted by hand and the timbers were all pegged.

I wonder if my neighbor will help me next time I want to build some sheds or polebarns?

It's time for the midnight pole barns raising!
Thejonnycore
It's all wood. It can quickley catch fire. I don't like these kinds of sheds and pole barns. Build it out of brick and forget about using wood pole.
mobsey94
I feel so lazy after watching that. To feel better I'm going to build some barns! Or at least some sheds. Maybe a box? Nevermind, I'll just watch more videos about polebarns.
antz733
Good job on the video. These kinds of polebarns used to be everywhere. Glad we don't have to build all barns like that, though.
GentlemenPreferHanes
Seems like everyone helps out, like when they lift each pole by hand. I like that.

I think I'll stick to my polebarns.

These aren't simple sheds like in grandmas back yard.
rascalrascal
Here in Pennsylvania, we make our barns two stories high. And they don't come in kits, either. Each pole weighs as much as twenty men, and twenty men can weigh a lot.

And I thought I was working hard when I built two sheds in my back yard from prefabricated kits!
freedom3001
That's the "English" peoples' trucks. They help with a lot of barns in Georgia.

I design and build sheds and polebarns for a living, and I have to say it's pretty inspiring to see these Amish builders doing it by hand, no kits, no power tools, and they don't even use gussets. Pretty impressive. Glad I don't have to build polebarns like this, though.

How many kits does it take to build one of those? I adore the work ethic and comradery of the Amish to do something like this. Imagine building barns or any building like that on your own that doesn't come in a kit and you'll see what I mean!
Diamondfarmslady
I didn't know sheds came in kits, or that you could design your own polebarns. What does that have to do with the fantastic work the Amish are doing in this video? Sure, I suppose it would be easier if you used prefab kits but I think you're missing the point, which is the ethics and values behind this kind of hard work, and the community coming together to get the job done.
DWGreear
The crane was just a precaution. I wonder what kind of pole or beams they're using, if it's hand-hewn?
bethanystewart22
Kits for pole barns and sheds? This was the last thing I expected when I googled polebarns. I was hoping to find directions to the bar downtown.
AndyWarholisAlive
What're you talking about? These polebarns are way more than just sheds. And the kind of work the Amish do doesn't involve any kind of prefabricated kits.
john3sixteen
I prefer to use solid oak beams instead of the pole assembly kits that come with most prefab sheds, but the gussets you showed me made a big difference.

Of course we like to do things the easy way here at Polebarns . Com.
That's why our favorite retailers specialize in easy to assemble kits for pole barns and sheds, and even ready to ship buildings, but we still have to admire the work ethic that went into the construction of these buildings in the past, and in some cases even now days, like in the fantastic video below.
